Would you believe that we are just over a year away from the 10th edition of the Put Foot Rally? It’s hard to fathom just how far the Put Foot Rally has come from the early days in 2010, when I was running around, drenched in sweat, under the scorching sun in the Getaway Magazine Show carpark, illegally placing flyers on the windscreens of every car I could find….
It has been one massive, wild journey to where we are today. A story no-doubt worthy of coffee-table book status. In fact, the Put Foot story is just one, of a handful of reasons, why I have decided to restart Put Foot blog. Now with a new focus, and mission, and the energy of a thousand gazelles… slightly older gazelles.
My hope is to document and share all the incredible stories of how the Rally started, how we have managed to keep over 2000 Put Footers alive over the course of 8 rallies, while also growing the rally three times the size in the last three years. I’ll also share the vision of where we are going, and our intended destination by the 10th rally in 2020.
Writing this blog, is a great opportunity to write about the incredible participants that have crossed our Start Line…. Like Bushman paintings that have survived hundreds of years, their adventures, antics and escapades are immortalized in Put Foot folklore and are very much part of the legacy and spirit of the event. There are stories here, filled with endless funny moments, stories of immense adversity, personal discovery, and also many immensely deep human stories too… all of which I believe need and deserve to be shared with the world. These stories will leave you exhilarated, speechless, and also in awe at how each year hundreds of complete strangers have come together to become one big Put Foot Family.
Above all, my goal is to continue building Put Foot brand as a trusted and credible voice for travel across Southern Africa. So, expect a broad range of topics over the coming weeks and months, which will include everything from motivating people of all ages from the far reached of the planet (and Limpopo) to visit Southern Africa. Other posts will cover our top destinations in each country that we love visiting each year, the best places to campsites (coldest beers and warmest showers), the secret hidden gems that you won’t find advertised on the internet… and not forgetting our top recommendation of where to see wildlife. And just for laughs there will be a series of video tutorials on packing and preparing your vehicle for traveling in Southern Africa.
Oh, this also serves as little announcement that our Youtube Channel will be launching soon, where I’ll also be covering these topics on a new vlog! So pop over and subscribe. *PS Just don’t expect anything more than 1997 SABC 2 quality… event thats pushing it.
Until next time… Go Well, Go Shell.

What does “Put Foot” mean?
It is a humorous South African colloquial slang term with many similar meanings for “Put your foot down” or “Go (drive) faster” or event “Hurry up”. The Put Foot Rally also plays on the term with an additional meaning “put shoes on feet” a reference to providing young underprivileged children with school shoes, a major part of the rally’s charity drive.
